Meet Our Clinicians Chris Aiken, M.D., Director Dr. Aiken is a psychiatrist who specializes in both
psychotherapy and medication. He began
his career as a research assistant at the National Institute of Mental Health
in 1993. From there he went on to complete medical school at Yale
and residency at Duke University Medical Center. He has pursued additional education at centers throughout the
world including the Menninger Clinic, Queen’s
Square of London, and Cornell’s
Payne-Whitney Clinic and
Westchester Hospital.
In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Aiken is active in teaching and
research in psychiatry. He has
coauthored two educational books on psychiatry for medical students and has
published scientific papers on psychiatric diagnosis and treatment. He is the president of the Forsyth County
Psychiatric Association and serves as a Clinical Instructor at the Wake
Forest University School of Medicine. Dr. Aiken directly supervises the work of other clinicians in
the practice. Ann McCarty, Psychiatric Physician Assistant Ann McCarty specializes in therapy, medication and lifestyle
approaches to mood disorders, including nutrition and mindfulness-based
stress reduction. Ann’s interest in therapy began in the medical field and grew
into a deep appreciation for the mind-body connection. She started her career as a clinician,
educator and researcher in the fields of dermatology and breast cancer at
Wake Forest University’s School of Medicine. While working there, she studied
at the Duke Center for Integrative Medicine and
trained in Carolyn Orr, Psychiatric Nurse Specialist Carolyn Orr offers combined psychotherapy and medication treatment. She completed advanced training in cognitive-behavioral therapy at the international center for this therapy, the Beck Institute. For the past three years she has studied towards an advanced degree in psychiatric treatment at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. |
