Mahala Motzny, LCAS, LCMHC
Mahala works with anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar, grief, addictions and co-dependency issues. “I try to provide a safe place where people can explore difficult thoughts, feelings, or memories that keep them from living more fully in the present.” Among the approaches she uses include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotions-Focused Therapy (EFT), Gestalt, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing. She works with adults and young adults.
Mahala has has over 16 years of experience as a therapist since earning her Masters Degree from UNC-Greensboro’s counseling program. She has also received specialty training in therapy for grief and trauma through the methods used by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, EMDR and psychodramatic interventions. Those therapies help clients resolve negative beliefs, emotions and experiences so they are less impactful in their present lives.
In her free time, Mahala enjoy hiking in the North Carolina Mountains, yoga, spending time with family (including one very friendly Golden Retriever) and learning the banjo. When weather permits, she will be on the water on her stand-up paddle board or digging in the dirt in her garden.
