TMS can work when antidepressants have not and has fewer side effects than most medications. This treatment treats depression and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) by using magnets to activate the brain. Read more about TMS, also called transcranial magnetic stimulation.
I was just wondering if somebody could tell me what it feels like when you get this does it feel like the old shock treatment? Does it feel like you just get a little pressure in your head? I’m trying to imagine what it feels like when you’re done do they have to wheel you into the bed in a hospital and lay you face down like they used to the old shock treatments that’s after your mind of your memories and everything? Or don’t you feel anything at all you don’t even know you had it? cuz somebody answered out there has anybody had this cuz the old shock treatment was absolutely Nazi.
Good question. TMS has nothing in common with ECT. During TMS you may feel muscle tension or tingling around your scalp. Unlike ECT, it does not induce a seizure, does not require you to be unconscious or take anesthesia, and does not affect the entire brain. ECT is an electrical treatment that effects the entire brain. TMS is a magnetic treatment that only affects a small part of the brain that’s involved in depression (or OCD if we are treating that).
